It’s not easy, gettin’ green. But cash stipends help.

Cool announcements No Comments »

Hi,

Gary here. The Goddess of Communication blogged about the environmental kind of green the other day. Now, I want to blog about another kind of green. The money kind. (Well, at least green when talking about the US kind of money).

Elluminate has quietly had a speaking stipend program in place for a few months, accessible only through our Community Partners and directly through the Elluminate sales team. This stipend, which must be applied for and approved, is either at the US$250 or US$500 level. The complete set of rules and application guidelines can be found here and the application can be found here.

Up until today, this was not public. But in celebration of Stanley Kubrick’s and Sandra Bullock’s birthdays, I thought making this stipend link public would be cool. (I know Stanley can no longer apply — RIP — but if someone could get Sandra to apply that would be really cool! Maybe she could do an Elluminate web conference on a bus - when the bus went slower than 50MPH her wireless internet connection would drop… I dunno, just thinking out loud).

Best to all, and keep on onlinin’

Gary

Live Online Storytelling Captivates Student Audience

Cool customers No Comments »

One of the best ways to extend the traditional classroom or add a new element to distance learning is hosting a remote guest speaker. Richard Van Camp, an award-winning Native American author, recently interacted live, online with 100 students on Vancouver Island in Canada. A member of the Dogrib (Tlicho) Nation of Canada’s Northwest Territories, Richard proved to be a riveting storyteller and a skilled teacher.

What’s more, his session was captured in an Elluminate Live! recording. This is digital storytelling at its best. The students loved it, asking many questions via chat or microphone.

It’s Easy Being Green When You’re Live Online

Blogger Craig Mackintosh, who writes for Celsias, posted some compelling data that makes the case for using web conferencing technology rather than driving or flying to meet. The post includes some stats we gathered and calculated for Q1 2007. While we’ve always stressed how teaching, learning, and meeting online saves time and travel costs, it’s also important to note that it also helps the planet!
